AbideText LLC — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how AbideText LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information when you use Abide (the "Service"), a text-message-based Christian companion delivered over iMessage, RCS, and SMS, and any associated website. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.
1.Definitions
- Account: the profile associated with your phone number when you text Abide.
- Affiliate: an entity that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with a party.
- Device: any device that can access the Service, such as a phone, computer, or tablet.
- Jurisdiction: United States; primary governing state: California.
- Personal Data: any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
- Service: Abide, including the text-messaging experience, our website, and any related tools we may build.
- Service Provider: a third party that processes data on our behalf to help us operate the Service, including our AI infrastructure providers.
- Spiritual Content: information you share related to your faith, prayer life, struggles, or personal circumstances, including prayer requests, journal entries, and anything shared in conversation with Abide.
- Usage Data: data collected automatically through use of the Service or its underlying infrastructure, such as message timestamps and delivery status.
- You: the individual using the Service.
2.Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Your phone number, required to use the Service since Abide operates over text messaging.
- Your name and any personal context you choose to share in conversation (life stage, family, career, church, gender, and similar details), which Abide may remember to make your experience more personal.
- Prayer requests, reading plan activity, memory verses, journal entries, translation preferences, and anything else you tell Abide as part of normal conversation.
- Voice memos, if you send them. These are automatically transcribed to text so Abide can respond; see Section 7.
- Payment information, if and when you subscribe to a paid tier. This is processed directly by our payment provider, Stripe; we do not directly store your full card details.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Basic message metadata needed to operate the Service, such as timestamps, delivery status, and which conversation a message belongs to.
- General technical information passed through our messaging provider, such as whether you are messaging over iMessage, RCS, or SMS.
We do not collect device-level location data or browsing history through the messaging product itself. We have no advertising of any kind and do not use advertising trackers within the messaging experience.
3.Cookies and Our Website
Our marketing and informational website (separate from the texting product itself) may use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to operate correctly and understand basic usage.
- Necessary/Essential cookies: required for the website to function correctly, such as remembering basic session information. These cannot be disabled without affecting how the site works.
- Basic analytics cookies: help us understand, in aggregate, how many people visit our site and which pages they view, so we can improve it. We do not use these to build advertising profiles, and we do not share this data with advertising networks.
- Meta Pixel: our website uses Meta Pixel, a tracking tool provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. ("Meta"). Meta Pixel may collect information about your visits to and interactions with our website, such as pages viewed, to help us measure the performance of our advertising and understand how people use our site. This information may be shared with Meta for advertising measurement and attribution.
Apart from Meta Pixel as described above, we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share data collected via our website for cross-context behavioral advertising. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings; doing so may affect how well the website functions, though it will not affect your use of Abide over text message.
4.Some Information Is More Sensitive, and We Treat It That Way
Abide is built to hold spiritual and personal conversations, including things you might not tell many other people, such as struggles with temptation, doubt, grief, or personal confession. We take this seriously:
- Information you share in confidence is flagged internally as sensitive and is never shown to other participants in a group text, even if you are also in a group conversation with Abide.
- If a conversation suggests you may be in crisis, for example expressing thoughts of self-harm or describing abuse, Abide is designed to respond with care and, where appropriate, share crisis resources. This is a safety feature, not a surveillance one; we do not monitor conversations for any purpose other than responding helpfully and safely in the moment.
- You can ask Abide at any time what it remembers about you (text
/memory), and ask it to forget everything (text/forget me). See Section 10.
5.We Do Not Sell Your Data, and We Do Not Run Ads
Abide has no advertising of any kind within the product, no ad tracking pixels in the messaging experience, and no third-party ad networks integrated into the Service. We do not sell your Personal Data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Our business model is a direct subscription, not advertising, so there is no reason for your data to leave our systems for marketing purposes, and it does not.
6.How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Operate the core Service: hold conversations with you, remember relevant context, and respond helpfully.
- Send you messages you have asked for, including replies to your questions, reminders you have set, and, if you have engaged with this feature, occasional messages Abide initiates on its own (see Section 6.1).
- Process subscription payments through Stripe, if you choose to subscribe.
- Transcribe voice memos you send, so Abide can understand and respond to them.
- Maintain the security and reliability of the Service, including preventing abuse.
- Improve the Service in limited, privacy-conscious ways; for example, our AI providers do not use your conversations to train their general-purpose models (see Section 9).
- Comply with legal obligations.
6.1 Proactive Messages
Part of what makes Abide different from a typical app is that it may occasionally text you first, for example to follow up on a prayer request, remind you of a reminder you set, or check in based on something you have shared. We only do this in ways designed to be genuinely relevant to you, not generic broadcasts, and we do not send unprompted messages until we have a reasonable basis for knowing your general time zone, so we can avoid contacting you at an inconvenient hour. You can ask Abide to reduce or stop these messages at any time in conversation.
7.Voice Memos and Transcription
If you send Abide a voice memo, it is automatically transcribed to text, using a third-party AI transcription provider, so Abide can understand and respond to it. We do not use voice data for any purpose beyond generating that transcription and responding to your message, and we do not retain raw audio longer than necessary to process it.
8.How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your Personal Data. We share information only in these circumstances:
- Service Providers: companies that help us operate Abide. This currently includes Anthropic (which provides the primary AI model powering Abide's conversations) and OpenAI (which may be used for certain functions such as voice transcription); Linq, which provides the messaging infrastructure connecting Abide to iMessage, RCS, and SMS; Amazon Web Services, which hosts and stores our data; and Stripe, which processes payments if you subscribe. Stripe receives your payment details directly; we do not store your full card number.
- Legal Requirements: if required by law or a valid legal request from a court, regulator, or government authority.
- Safety: if we believe it is reasonably necessary to protect the safety of you or others, prevent fraud, or address a security incident.
- Business Transfers: if Abide is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will provide notice before your data is transferred.
- With Your Consent: for any other purpose you specifically authorize.
We do not share your conversations, prayer requests, or personal context with any third party for their own marketing or data-mining purposes.
9.AI Processing of Your Information
Your conversations are processed by third-party artificial intelligence models, including models provided by Anthropic and, for certain functions, OpenAI, in order to generate Abide's responses and power features like voice transcription. Consistent with our providers' own data handling commitments at the time of this Policy, your conversations are not used by these providers to train their general-purpose, non-Abide-specific AI models. If this changes, or if we adopt additional AI providers with different practices, we will update this Policy and, where required by law, notify you.
Because AI-generated content can occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or unexpected, please also review our Terms of Service, which describe the nature of AI-generated content and the limits of what Abide can be relied upon for.
10.Your Rights: Access and Deletion
Unlike most services, you do not need to visit a website or fill out a form to exercise your privacy rights with Abide. You can just ask, in conversation:
- Text
/memoryat any time to see a summary of what Abide currently remembers about you. - Text
/forget meto permanently erase everything Abide remembers about you. We will ask you to confirm before this happens, since it cannot be undone. - You can also reach us directly at legal@abidetext.com for any request our in-conversation commands do not cover, including questions about data we are required to retain for legal or security reasons.
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable law, such as the right to correct inaccurate data, restrict certain processing, or lodge a complaint with a regulator. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.
10.1 California Residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), gives you the following rights:
- Right to Know: what Personal Data we collect about you, the categories of sources, and how it is used and disclosed.
- Right to Access: a copy of the specific pieces of Personal Data we hold about you.
- Right to Correct: inaccurate Personal Data we maintain about you.
- Right to Delete: your Personal Data, as described above via
/forget meor by contacting us. - Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: California law defines "sensitive personal information" to include religious or philosophical beliefs. Because Abide's core purpose involves you sharing faith-related and spiritual content, we want to be direct about this: we use this information only to provide the Service to you, specifically to hold conversation, remember context, and respond helpfully, never to infer characteristics about you for advertising or to sell or share it, and you may ask us to further limit its use at any time by contacting us.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: for exercising any of these rights.
- Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: not applicable here, since we do not sell Personal Data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
You may exercise these rights by texting /memory or /forget me directly to Abide, or by emailing legal@abidetext.com. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We will respond to verifiable requests within the time required by law.
11.GDPR and UK GDPR Rights
Abide is currently intended for use in the United States. If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, and you nonetheless use the Service, the following applies to you.
11.1 Legal Bases for Processing
We process your Personal Data on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: to provide the Service you have asked us for.
- Legitimate interests: for example, to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and improve reliability, balanced against your rights and interests.
- Consent: where required, such as for certain proactive messages or optional features, which you may withdraw at any time.
- Legal obligation: where we are required to process or retain data to comply with the law.
11.2 Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to: access the Personal Data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request erasure of your data; restrict or object to certain processing; receive a portable copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
11.3 International Transfers
Because our Service Providers, including our AI, messaging, hosting, and payment providers, operate in the United States, your Personal Data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, for such transfers.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@abidetext.com.
12.Links to Other Websites
Our website or messaging conversations may occasionally contain links to third-party websites or services that are not operated by us, such as a payment page or a resource we reference. If you click a third-party link, you will be directed to that party's site, and we encourage you to review its privacy policy. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy practices, or policies of any third-party site or service.
13.Data Retention
- Active conversation history is retained for a limited window to allow natural back-and-forth conversation, after which it expires automatically.
- Long-term memory, such as your name, prayer requests, reading progress, and similar context, is retained until you ask Abide to forget it via
/forget me, or until your account has been inactive for an extended period, at which point we may delete it in the ordinary course of data hygiene. - We may retain limited information longer where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
14.Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption of stored data and access controls on who within our organization can view sensitive information. No method of electronic storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your Personal Data, we will investigate and notify you and/or regulators where required by law.
15.Age Requirement
Abide is intended solely for use by individuals 18 years of age or older. Abide is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Data from, anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected data from someone under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has used Abide and shared personal information with us, please contact us at legal@abidetext.com.
16.International Users
Abide is currently intended for use in the United States. If we expand availability elsewhere, your information may be processed in the United States or other jurisdictions with different data protection laws than your home country, and we will update this Policy accordingly.
17.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of Abide after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
